ABQ Find is a service that we developed for Albuquerque businesses because we couldn't find anyone else doing it. There are no services in the metro area that solely service the advancement and promotion of ONLY locally-owned businesses. Buy Local is huge, and very important. The economical impact that can be made when families even dedicate a small percentage of their purchases locally are astronomical! Here is how the ChristopherWhitson founder decribes how he came up with ABQ Find:
"I was visiting some friends before the holidays in 2009 who had recently been trying to 'buy local' 100% of their goods. I asked them how it was going and they're response was not as elated as I had anticipated. So after some prodding the father was telling me how hard it was to actually find out whether a business or product was locally-owned, or locally-made. I asked him if there was a website or database where this information could be looked up and it turned out there wasn't. A few days later, upon telling others about my idea and what it would offer to locally-owned businesses, I decided to go for it. I spent the next 5 months building a product I thought both consumers and businesses would use. And priced it at a level I thought any business would deem worth it. I'm waiting for the rest to be history."
The next project that is being worked on, as an expansion to ABQ Find, is NMBuyLocal. NBBuyLocal will be a statewide resource where any locally-owned business in NM can be promoted and sought out to nearby consumers, and vice versa. Consumers in Las Cruces, Farmington, Gallup, and more can find locally-owned business in their specific towns and cities. Keep tuned for more when NMBuyLocal is launched.
